“What’s Your Math Problem?” has returned for a
second season! The strategy of this initiative is to provide increased
motivation for students to become more proficient in mathematics by having
them participate in a series of televised game shows that engage classrooms
in mathematics competitions. The principal goal of this project is to
increase the Mathematics Achievement Test scores for all 6th
grade students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
Every school that has sixth grade is expected to participate. Each game
show will engage two sixth grade classrooms in a mathematics competition.
Each team will represent a different school. It is imperative that a sixth
grade teacher be identified as the building Whats Your Math Problem?
point person. This teacher will motivate interest in the students about
this initiative, participate in one training/preparation session, conduct
building level competitions, prepare the participating students for their
competition and accompany the schools team to WVIZ on the date of their
competition. As a result of this initiative, we will have a championship
mathematics team at the end of the school year! For more information,
