CMSD Family & Community Empowerment Conference

“EMPOWERING THROUGH CHANGE; WHATEVER IT TAKES”

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) seeks proposals for presentations at the 2nd Annual Family and Community Empowerment Conference on Friday, May 28 - Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Cleveland Convention Center, 500 East Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44114. The theme of our conference is Empowerment Through Change: Whatever It Takes!

The conference is a collaborative effort to empower parents, staff and members of the community to improve the lives of our students and their families. Parents/guardians, family and community involvement are key factors in student success. This conference provides a forum for meaningful dialogue. More than 2,500 parents, teachers, and community members participated during the 2009 two-day conference

The keynote speaker (TBD) will address the issues of Dropout Prevention and Empowering Parents to Help Their Children to be Successful at School, at Home and in the Community. Parents will receive adult and student next steps that will address the achievement gaps and increase the high school graduation rate.

Call for Workshop/Exhibit Proposals

Workshops will be offered on both days of the conference from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

Workshops are one hour in length which is inclusive of 15 minutes of a question and answer period.

Call for Proposals: Successful proposals will share ideas, program models and best practices that address the challenges facing urban districts and their constituents. Workshops should engage the participants and provide information to take away. Submissions must include the presentation title, presentation summary (100-word max overview for the conference program), and 100-word max biographical information about the presenter.

 

 

Exhibitors: Each exhibit proposal submission must address one of the theme topics and target audience (parents, student, school staff and/or community members). There is a fee of $100 per table per day for exhibitors. Exhibitors may set-up on May 28 at 7:00 am doors will open to the public at 8:30am. One 8” table and two folding chairs will be provided.

Presenters and Exhibitors:

Travel and lodging are the responsibility of the presenter. All audio-visual equipment needs are the responsibility of the presenter (overhead projectors, laptops, LDC projectors, extension cords and or TV/VCR monitors).
